The NBA star takes leave of absence in order to take good care of his pregnant wife.
Jrue Holiday will not be playing for the New Orleans Pelicans this 2016-2017 season. He will spend time with his wife Lauren.
When they received the news that his wife had a benign tumor on the right side of her brain, they are very unhappy.
Their holiday was left devastated. Lauren is a retired soccer star and already six months pregnant when they discovered a benign tumor.
The good news is the tumor is operable and not a threat to their unborn baby’s health, the tumor needs to be removed.
The NBA star said, “My family comes before basketball.” “I’m obviously blessed to play this game and be in the position I am in, but my wife is the most important thing in the world to me. She comes before anything else,” he added.
Jrue really loves to play basketball, but for him, his wife is the most important.
The NBA star said, “Obviously, we were and are still very excited about the birth of our first child, but our focus shifted from having this magnificent blessing to making sure everything is going to be OK with Lauren and the child.” “Our priorities right now are being able to manage Lauren’s symptoms and still have a fairly healthy pregnancy,” he added.
His wife Lauren is due in the coming October, but they are hoping to induce the birth, so the doctors can remove the tumor as soon as possible. Six weeks after she gives birth, Lauren will undergo into operation.
Jrue said, “Lauren has her good days and her bad days; some are better than others.” “She’s obviously a fighter, the toughest woman I know. That’s the reason why I married her,” he added.
According to Jrue, his team are very supportive for taking a leave of absence. Of course, everyone understands their situation.
Jrue said, “The Pelicans have been great.” “There wasn’t any pressure to be with the team or to choose between my team and my wife. They told me to be a husband first. I don’t think they know how much their support means to me and my family,” he said.
Jrue and Lauren met when they were studying and at the same time they are both athletes at UCLA. The couple was married in July 2013.
Lauren is a two time Olympic gold medalist, she retired last summer in order for them to start a family.
The Pelicans general manager said, “We encourage Jrue to take as much time as he needs to be with his wife and family before returning to the Pelicans.” “We’ll continue to do everything we can to support them and help them get through these hard times,” Dell Demps added.
